family tree

Been delving into family trees lately was involved in KinCafe after my niece Donna Spinelli sent me an invite to join.I got quite a ways with that then my nephew Jim Bishops' wife Jen sent me an invite to Ancestry.com and I got a 2 week free trial and things really took off as there are a lot of resources to help search for relatives. I've managed to trace back my fathers side to my 24th grandfather in 1180 in England. My mother has been harder to trace I've only been able to get back a couple of generations.I'm going to start putting in some tidbits I've picked up along the way. So stay tuned. One thing I've gotten on line is a small program called cousin calculator which is helpful. For example if I find my 8th great grandfather  is the 3rd great grandfather of someone I'm checking out it'll calculate that they are my 4th cousin 5x removed.Pretty neat.

Was hoping to take a picture of the moon rise on Monday down at Nubble Lighthouse but the weather doesn't look promising this picture is a screen shot from a program I downloaded it is a great tool for photographers it shows the sunrise and moonrise. You select a location and the date you're interested in and it shows the direction. In this picture the faint yellow line on the right shows where the sun comes up at Nubble Lighthouse Monday March,29 andthe darker yellow shows where it sets the moon is the light and dark blue. The little orange balloon shows where you are standing. The box on the right  the wavylines show the hrs you move the scroll bar and the sun and moon lines on the right move showing where they are at any given time of the day. If you want to download this program it is at  http://stephentrainor.com/tools
